Equipping Civil Society to Lead in the Age of AI
Artificial intelligence is already shaping who is visible, who receives resources, whose voices travel, and whose lives are monitored.
Across Latin America, decisions that affect communities are increasingly influenced by automated systems — from information flows to security infrastructures, from humanitarian response to public narratives. Power is reorganizing quickly.
Civil society must have the capacity to engage this transformation with intention, strategy, and ethical clarity.
Today, we are launching ALIADA: AI for Social Impact in Latin America and Beyond, a giving circle powered by Articulate Foundation in collaboration with CEPAZ (Centro de Justicia y Paz).
ALIADA seeks to convene, equip, and mobilize a regional community committed to ensuring that artificial intelligence strengthens democracy, protects rights, and expands collective resilience.
Why This Moment Matters
Civil society organizations across the region are navigating shrinking civic space, political persecution, digital surveillance, disinformation, climate crisis, and declining funding. At the same time, AI systems are accelerating in influence and reach.
Artificial intelligence can strengthen research, improve early-warning systems, enhance service delivery, and support evidence-based advocacy. It can also reproduce bias, concentrate power, and widen inequality when ethical governance is absent.
The direction AI takes in our region will depend on who organizes, who participates, and who invests in shaping it.
ALIADA is a step toward organizing that participation.
What We Are Building
ALIADA is hosted as a giving circle, and it is being built as a growing regional infrastructure.
A giving circle is more than a fundraising mechanism. It is a shared commitment model. Members contribute resources, invite others into the circle, exchange knowledge, and collectively decide how to strengthen impact. Growth happens through trust, referrals, collaboration, and shared purpose.
Through ALIADA, we aim to:
- Bring civil society leaders, ethical technologists, journalists, researchers, and philanthropic actors into a shared space
- Mobilize collective funding to expand AI literacy and responsible adoption
- Foster durable cross-sector alliances
- Elevate Latin American voices in global AI governance conversations
- Develop sustainable models that reinforce long-term civic resilience
Each contribution strengthens the circle. Each new member expands its reach. Each referral multiplies its capacity.
This is community-powered fundraising designed to build momentum.
Our Strategic Focus
ALIADA moves forward through three interconnected priorities:
Community and Regional Articulation
We are cultivating a sustained space for collaboration where members exchange knowledge, identify shared challenges, and explore joint solutions. The strength of the circle depends on its diversity and active participation. Every new connection deepens the ecosystem.
Ethical and Practical AI Capacity
Through collective fundraising, ALIADA seeks to provide training and Ethical AI certifications for social leaders and activists through a comprehensive program that equips them with: applied AI literacy, ethical frameworks, sustainable integration strategies and more.
Participants bring these capacities back to their organizations, expanding impact far beyond individual training.
Sustainability Through Shared Ownership
ALIADA grows through participation. Members contribute, invite, recommend, and co-create. The giving circle model allows funding to circulate within a trusted network, strengthening transparency, accountability, and long-term commitment.
We aim to build a community that expands organically — through referrals, partnerships, shared events, and collective storytelling — until it becomes a regional movement for ethical AI and democratic resilience.
The Vision We Are Advancing
We are working toward a region where:
- Civil society is technologically informed and strategically prepared.
- Human rights defenders engage AI with confidence and ethical clarity.
- Cross-sector alliances generate innovation rooted in dignity.
- Latin American perspectives shape global AI governance.
- Democratic resilience evolves alongside technological transformation.
This requires resources.
It requires coordination.
It requires people willing to invite others into the work.
Join ALIADA — And Help It Grow
ALIADA is designed to expand through community energy.
By joining the giving circle, you:

- Become part of a network shaping ethical digital transformation
- Help mobilize additional members through your own networks
- Strengthen a sustainable funding model rooted in shared responsibility
We invite you to join and to contribute: donate, refer, share, convene, and help grow this collective effort.
The systems shaping our future are being built now.
Let’s ensure democracy grows alongside them.
Join the ALIADA Giving Circle and help expand the movement
Together, we can guide artificial intelligence toward the common good, and build the community capable of sustaining that direction.
