Articulate Foundation at AWS Imagine for Nonprofits 2025

March 26, 2025 — Articulate Foundation participated in the AWS Imagine for Nonprofits 2025 conference, held at Amazon HQ in Arlington, VA. The event brought together more than 1,000 global leaders from the nonprofit sector to reflect on the future of purpose-driven technology.

About the event

Hosted by Amazon Web Services (AWS), AWS Imagine for Nonprofits is an in-person event that brings together leaders committed to social mission, technologists, and change agents focused on advancing social and environmental impact. The event combines thought leadership keynotes, interactive sessions, technical workshops, and networking opportunities to create an educational and collaborative experience. This space offers non-profit organizations tools and practical knowledge on how to apply technology responsibly and effectively to accelerate positive change in communities around the world.

A new frontier for social action

At Articulate Foundation, we believe that we are facing a historic opportunity: civil society organizations can not only adapt to technological change, but also lead it with values, creativity, and a vision for impact. Our participation in this space is part of our commitment to anticipate and co-create the future of social impact in Latin America and the Spanish-speaking world.

During the conference, key ideas were explored on how AI, data, and digital infrastructure can strengthen the sector’s mission, especially if developed with a human-centered approach, community participation, and principles of equity and justice.

Featured projects using AI

During the event, innovative projects were presented that are leveraging the potential of AI to solve critical social challenges:

  • Epilepsy Foundation: This organization uses AI to provide reliable and rapid answers about epilepsy, improving access to crucial medical information for patients and professionals.
  • Earth Genome: Implements AI to track environmental crimes and strengthen investigative journalism, helping to detect patterns in environmental damage with high accuracy.
  • Who We Play For: Applies machine learning for early detection of heart disease, saving lives through early prediction of health risks.
  • The Nature Conservancy: Uses AI to promote climate sustainability by applying predictive models that improve ecosystem management and conservation strategies.
  • Candid: Recognized for its use of AI to improve transparency and accessibility of information in the nonprofit sector, helping organizations connect with resources and funding.

These examples demonstrate how AI can be a powerful tool for improving the response to our society’s most pressing problems.

Leadership from civil society

At a time when technological power is concentrated in large private actors, the event proposed a critical reflection: what does AI look like when built from public service, from collaboration, from the community? What role can organizations that have historically upheld people’s rights, access, and dignity play?

For Articulate Foundation, these spaces are essential for articulating shared visions, connecting diverse networks, and ensuring that technology not only amplifies our capabilities, but also our values.

A call for collaborative action

Articulate Foundation’s participation in AWS Imagine 2025 aligns with our efforts to promote the AI Fund for Social Impact in Latin America, an initiative that seeks to equip social organizations in the region with tools, training, and partnerships that enable them to build their own people-centered technology solutions.

At this moment of global transformation, civil society can—and must—claim a leading role. Not as a passive user of imposed technologies, but as an active designer of possible futures.
